Don’t just be a dad.
Be a Crocker Dad.

We are an elite force of fund-raising, grilling, grilling, fund-raising, and grilling dads who never shy away from the critical tasks of grilling, fundraising, and fund-raising while grilling.

Getting Started

Seriously, it’s just a Google Group…

If you have a child at Crocker Highlands Elementary in Oakland, California, then by signing up for the Google Group, you will know everything going on with the Dads’ Club. It’s that simple.

Beer is generally available

Plenty of folks in the Crocker Dads community do not drink, but for historical reasons we continue to tout the ready availability of beer at all Crocker Dads functions.

No hidden fees

There are actually no fees whatsoever. We are all just here to raise funds for Crocker Highlands Elementary. Or, I guess it is for the PTA, which is for Crocker. And also the A-to-Z fund. Definitely raising funds of many types.

Mostly dads

It has not escaped us that the gendered identity of a “Dads Club” is a bit out of step with the times. Yet we persist in this silliness, knowing history may judge our organization harshly.

No commitment

Let’s not overthink this. You really just sign up for the Google Group, and then you attend anything you care to. We always appreciate the help at fundraising events!

Meet our leadership…

The Presidents of the Dads Club represent a long line of leadership excellence, each leaving the Dads Club in narrowly better shape than they found it. Evolving from napkins with instructions to Google Docs to a fully functional clubhouse and a world class marketing website, they are the standard bearers for Dads Clubs globally.

  • Cameron Platt

    President

Cameron introduced the Crocker Dads Clubhouse, a fully furnished activities center for thirsty dads. It has been a haven for watching the game, shooting pool, and staying out too late.

  • Adam Neary

    President Emeritus

When Adam rearchitected the service line for the Walkathon in two separate, high-velocity lines, we more than tripled our capacity. It was pure genius.

  • Alex Chase

    President Emeritus

Alex stunned the group to silence with the existential question: “Have these grills ever been cleaned?!” From that moment forward, the dads cleaned the grills.

  • Derek Lindgren

    President Emeritus

Derek asked the group if we should have a golf tournament. We all said, “No.” He did it anyway. Turns out? Lots of fun.

  • Jaison Smith

    President Emeritus

Jaison was a master at procuring free kegs of delicious local brews, and he knew a dude who still lets us put a keg behind a car next to the school. This forever changed the face of the organization.

  • Josh Hurwitz

    President Emeritus

Josh pre-dates written record of the Crocker Dads organization. He remains a legend. His exploits echo through the halls of time.

The Crocker Dads make up the best and the brightest our country has to offer. The organization is not only the country‘s preeminent elementary school dads club, but it is quite possible they are the best, most handsome, and most capable dads ever collected in one place in our nation‘s beautiful history.

While this may be our current President‘s real estate brokerage during the day, any Crocker Dad worth his grilling tongs knows that Abio Properties is straight up Dad Zone at night. Think of it as a secret lair for the next generation of Crocker Super-Dads.

Yes. Is Nice.

Ok, but…what would you say…you do here?

Our job is to raise money for the school.
Or — more often — our job is to grill food while other people are raising money.

The Big Four

There are four events which mark the cornerstones of our fundraising efforts for the year. When these events arise, you can expect an email from the team coordinating volunteers. If you are available, we would love to have your help.

Spaghetti Feed

The annual Spaghetti Feed is a free event open to the public and the neighborhood. All are welcome. While we used to cook all the pasta ourselves (and Adam still has all the pots to prove it!), we now get the event catered thanks to key sponsors. The dads are just responsible for all the logistics, set-up, and tear-down, as well as communications.

Walkathon

The Walkathon is our large Autumn event. While the PTA coordinates all the walking, we coordinate food. Our grilling station is the stuff of legends, and the CROCKER BURGER™ is the star of the show. Beer will be made available free of charge — across the street — for all dads. (And moms.)

Golf Tournament

The Annual Crocker Dads Open is a messy scramble held in the early spring every year. We say that it is messy because most of the dads attending do not golf. Many of them drink, though. We split into groups of four and play "best ball" so all are welcome regardless of skill level and interest.

Carnival

Our final event of the year wraps up the spring with a bang. Once again, the PTA coordinates […does anyone know what else is happening at the Carnival other than grilling?], and we grill. The CROCKER BURGER™ emerges from hibernation, and beer will be made available once more.

But that is not all…

Beyond the big four fundraisers are a handful of social events less focused on fundraising and more focused on, well, us.

Rye vs Bourbon

A beloved tradition taking place at the Crocker Dads Clubhouse, we pour a handful of bourbons and a handful of ryes, and we let the people decide.

Mescal vs Tequila

This is really quite a bit like the original Rye vs Bourbon tasting, but with a south-of-the-border flair. No, Jaison, it is still not a costume event.

Warriors games

Any time there is a critical game — and many times when there is not — we gather to watch a game, shoot pool, and have a few beverages.

Frequently asked questions

How are you guys so good looking?
This is perhaps the question we get most often, and yet all we can say is…diet and exercise, right?
What if I cannot attend an event?
Again, this is just a mailing list where we let you know about upcoming events. If you can make it, great! If not, no worries!
Is there a moms club?
Yes, but I do not believe they have a website. Or a clubhouse. We were here first.
Is the moms club the PTA?
No. Seriously. Dads belong in the PTA. Please sign up for the PTA, also.
Do I need any particular skills to participate in the fund-raising events? Will it require training like a Tough Mudder?
No. The Dads Club is considerably easier than a Tough Mudder. No skills required. No prep required. Just show up!
